Self-Portrait 3

(no subject)

Old Mallet buddy Chet put this up on his weblog today, and I felt obligated to steal and propagate it, for no other reason than I know Luke will appreciate it even if no one else does:

"Don't you drink? I notice you speak slightingly of the bottle. I have drunk since I was fifteen and few things have given me more pleasure. When you work hard all day with your head and know you must work again the next day what else can change your ideas and make them run on a different plane like whisky? When you are cold and wet what else can warm you? Before an attack who can say anything that gives you the momentary well-being that rum does? The only time it isn't good for you is when you write or when you fight. You have to do that cold. But it always helps my shooting. Modern life, too, is often a mechanical oppression and liquor is the only mechanical relief."

-- Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961)

-- Dammit, why can't I stop watching the Surreal Life? I have to admit, tho', it is entertaining if for no other reason than to see who The Hedgehog's going to throw the bone to first, the alcoholic slut from Real World Las Vegas or the ex-Baywatch chick. Also, like other people use a nickname like "slick" or "chief", Vanilla Ice calls people "Hasslehoff", which I just think is funny as shit.

-- I've done a bunch of shopping in the past couple weeks, which, as always, pleases me greatly. In addition to all the stuff I scored off Ebay, I got myself a shinai for kendo and a couple pair of chucks today. Also last week, there was a sale on the Old Navy website. They were selling jeans for seven bucks, what was I supposed to do? In addition to the $7 jeans they were unloading Christmas pajama pants for $3 a pair. Red pants covered with the word "Ho" and green pants covered with candy canes. Since (a) both of those are kinda pimptastic and (b) a very intelligent and beautiful woman once said to me that you can never have too many pairs of pajamas, I picked up one of each. I got those in the mail yesterday.

Speaking of which, I just love getting stuff in the mail, especially packages. Please tell me I'm not alone. I think that's why I love buying things off teh intarweb so damn much; it combines two of my absolute favorite things, shopping and mail, in one fun package. And yes, I am a grown man and not a seventeen year old girl. Why do you ask?
