Self-Portrait 3
Very little of interest occurring of late.

-- I got my new camera today, and will be putting it through its paces in the coming weeks. Pictures soon.

-- Will be acquiring a new bed and throwing out my old couch and television shortly, in exactly the opposite of that order.

-- Have thrown away all my porn (that I have immediate access to -- I think there might be a box in storage) and taken a self-imposed vow of celibacy. So far I'm getting a lot more reading done.

How old was your old camera? Cause if it was the one I remember, it's older than ours. I hope not. Ours is older than dirt. For a digital camera, anyway.

No comment on celibacy.

The one I had was way older than yours. It was a refurbished two megapixel that I bought several years ago. Hang on a sec --

I had it with me when I took a trip down to Fort Rucker back in '01, so it was at least six years old, probably at least a little bit older. WAY past time for an upgrade.

We got ours brand new the year after we came back from Atlanta, so about 2001. It was a good bottom of the line model. 2.1 megapixels. Digital zoom only. Takes good outdoor photos, but inside is sort of so-so.

Are you guys in the market for a new camera? My new one is a 5.0 megapixel Nikon that uses SD cards; $100 on Amazon.

By the hoary gods! Cameras is cheap now, like printers.

Not yet, but we've discussed it. I doubt we'll be getting much of anything until we have a house, and thus know how much money will be left.

If you're interested, my dad's trying to unload his digicam on someone, gratis. Nothing wrong with it, he just got a nicer one for Christmas; I think it's 3-4 years old. He asked me if I had any friends that would want it. You interested?

Just out of curiosity, what is he getting rid of and what did he replace it with?

Also, does your dad develop his own film?

From his e-mail:

I have a perfectly good Olympus digital camera which functions very well except for the fact that the flash function doesn't work. See if any of your friends wants it, gratis. Software, interface cable, memory cards, carrying case. Hate to see it sit in a drawer and rot. My new Sony Cybercam absolutely rocks.

So, it looks like my memory glossed over the flash function bit.

And he very rarely converts his digicam pics to actual print. When he does, he just prints it out on the color printer at home.

So he's gotten away from taking film pictures altogether? Judging by the set of equipment that he bestowed upon me, I had assumed he was pretty serious about it at some point.

Hells yeah!

And that would free me up to take riskier trips with the old camera. Like when horseback riding or traversing the beach, for example.

See above - the flash function doesn't work. Still interested?

Oh yeah. I'm always turning the flash off anyway.

And even if I wasn't happy with it, it would become a classroom camera for gifted children to take interesting pictures with.

See, I was gonna get it for you anyway. No reason to pull out the big guns.

Sorry, that ace fell right out of my sleeve.

I too am celibate, though it is in no way self imposed.
